ROSTRAVER – A Monessen man is in custody over allegations he tried to strike his son with a sport-utility vehicle after the two engaged in a fistfight on New Year’s Eve at the Rostraver Walmart.

Eddy Bell, 47, of 407 Ridge Ave., was being held in Westmoreland County Jail on $75,000 bond stemming from the fight that began in the store at 100 Sara Way and spilled into the parking lot, court records show.

Police said Eddy Bell and his son, Nicholas Bell, began to argue about 1 p.m. near the checkout registers, and they “squared off and started to exchange blows” in the parking lot, according to the affidavit.

At one point they both men reportedly fell to the ground and the father then got into his vehicle.

Nicholas Bell, 29, also of Monessen, reached into his father’s vehicle in what appeared to be another attempt to punch him, then walked away, police allege in court documents.

Eddy Bell’s vehicle veered from the trafficway onto the sidewalk toward his son, nearly striking him and causing “another person at the nearby bus stop to flee out of fear of being struck,” police noted in the affidavit.

Eddy Bell is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Police also charged the son with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
