Deemston under boil water advisory
An overnight storm caused a power outage at a water pump station resulting in the closure Wednesday of the Bethlehem-Center School District and a boil water advisory for three days.
Tim Faddis, manager of Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority, said water service was restored about 8 a.m. to the lines that serve about 400 customers.
The Deemston pump station shut off quickly during the outage, resulting in a “water hammer” that blew through the lines, causing five ruptures.
Bottled water has been delivered to Beth-Center, which will allow the district to reopen Thursday morning, district Superintendent Chris Sefcheck said.
“Water has been delivered. The pressure is fine. Everything has been flushed out properly,” Sefcheck said.
Faddis said the boil water advisory was expected to be lifted Friday for most of the 400 customers in the Deemston area. The rest of the Greene County-based authority’s service area is not affected by the advisory.
