“1968: The Year That Rocked America” will close Sunday at the Senator John Heinz History Center.

The 8,000-square-foot traveling exhibition from the Minnesota Historical Society explores the decade-defining year through evocative objects, state-of-the-art multimedia displays and more than 100 artifacts related.

The exhibit takes visitors on a journey through the peak of the Vietnam War, assertions of Black Power at the Olympic Games, the national launch of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” stardom for Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy.

In honor of the exhibit’s closing, the history center will host a U.S. veterans panel Saturday and Mother’s Day promotion Sunday.
