Oil was discovered Wednesday spilling into a pond from an abandoned tank that was vandalized in South Franklin Township.

The oil release was small, said Lynn Seay, spokeswoman for Consol Energy, which owns the pond. She said she could not confirm the location of the pond and did not know the size of the tank, but that the spill occurred at the site of an old well, not a Marcellus well. The Washington County Hazardous Materials Team was called to contain the oil. State police were called to investigate.
