A former Washington County jury commissioner wants to be the next register of wills of Washington County.

Judith Fisher, 79, of East Washington, said this week she’s seeking the Democratic nomination for the row office.

The Mon Valley native said in an emailed statement she previously spent 20 years as the county jury commissioner and served at times as the president and vice president of the state Jury Commissioners Association. She’s also on the state Democratic Committee.

A trained rehabilitation counselor, she said she’s also “worked with families battling the disease of addiction.

She said she wants to improve technology in the office, which she said could offer more records and services online.

“All public records and forms need to be readily available and easily accessible to the public in order to run an open government,” her email reads. “County government needs to be open and operating twenty-four hours a day on the internet in order to facilitate our county residents.”

Fisher also claimed to have the most experience of any candidate in the field for the office, which was opened up by current Register of Wills Mary Jo Poknis’ retirement.

Poknis, who was first elected to the job in 2007, isn’t seeking another term.

Other Democrats who are seeking the party nomination in the May 21 primary are Suzanne Archer of Washington and North Franklin Township Supervisor Bob Sabot.
