Canonsburg woman accused of pointing shotgun at Canonsburg police officer
A woman was jailed after allegedly pointing a shotgun at a Canonsburg police officer.
Officer Louis Bailey responded Friday evening to 20 Van Eman St., the residence of Barbi Ann Kobertz, after receiving reports of gunshots in the area.
A neighbor told police that he saw Kobertz, 48, in her backyard about 6:15 p.m., discharging a firearm in the air while yelling profanities at herself.
When Bailey started walking up an alleyway near her house, he saw Kobertz on the porch. She allegedly took a “Weaver-style stance,” raised a long gun and pointed it at him, he wrote in his report.
“I screamed ‘Yo!'” Bailey wrote in his report. “I then ran and took cover behind a vehicle parked in the alleyway and radioed for assistance.”
He said Kobertz then came out of the residence without a weapon. He said she appeared to be intoxicated.
Bailey asked her why she pointed a gun at him, to which she reportedly responded that she didn’t. Bailey attempted to arrest her, but she resisted, according to his report. Kobertz was taken into custody when additional Canonsburg officers arrived, along with North Strabane police.
A revolver with five spent cartridges was found on the porch, and a 16-gauge shotgun was inside her kitchen.
One neighbor told police that he had witnessed Kobertz point a long gun at Bailey.
Kobertz was charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. She was arraigned by District Judge Mark Wilson and jailed on $25,000 bond.
