Pittsburgh’s Jason Martin had opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a solo home run off Toronto starter Matt Shoemaker.

Sam Gaviglio pitched a scoreless third and fourth inning to pick up the win for Toronto (1-3). Zach Jackson pitched a hitless ninth for the save.
