CANONSBURG

Fraud: A resident reported to borough police Monday morning that she received a scam message purportedly from her elderly aunt via Facebook Messenger. Police said the message asked the woman to apply for a fake “government program” in which she would receive $150,000 for a $500 fee. The message included a picture of the woman’s aunt to make the message look official. Police said the woman knew it was a scam and replied to the message, threatening to call police. 

CENTERVILLE

Assault alleged: Jonathan Adam Sellers, 36, of 48 Pine St., Jefferson Township, Greene County, is charged by Centerville police with simple assault and harassment over allegations he struck Gaylord D. Knisely several times in the head at 748 Ridge Road about 4 p.m. Friday, court records show. Sellers is free on $5,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.

CHARLEROI

Assault alleged: Dalton James Shepard, 19, of 27 Spring St., Charleroi, is charged by Charleroi Regional police with simple assault and disorderly conduct over allegations he grabbed a 12-year-old girl by the throat and slammed her to the floor about 10:40 a.m. Thursday at 101 Luella Ave., court records show. District Judge Larry Hopkins issued the charges Friday in a summons.

NEW EAGLE

Man jailed: George Jones, 61, of 516 Fourth Ave., New Eagle, is charged by Monongahela police with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, simple assault and criminal mischief, court records show. Police accuse Jones of striking his neighbor, Justin McCartney, in the neck with a baseball bat after becoming angry about McCartney idling his truck about 2:40 p.m. Sunday. Jones also is accused of striking the passenger side door of the truck with the bat. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Mark Wilson.

WASHINGTON

Burglary: A resident on West Maiden Street reported to city police Friday afternoon that his residence was broken into and $500 was stolen. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.

Criminal mischief: Washington Financial Bank, 190 N. Main St., reported to city police Friday that an ATM on the side of the building was damaged early that morning. A couple was unable to get money from the ATM due to insufficient funds, police reported. Surveillance video shows one of the people getting angry and beating on the keypad, breaking it and causing $2,600 worth of damage. Police are investigating.
