Elmer William Schifko
Elmer William “Bud” Schifko, 82, of Waynesburg, died at 4:35 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, at home.
He was born Friday, May 29, 1936, in McClellandtown, a son of the late Elmer Schifko and Julia Blizman Schifko.
Mr. Schifko was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Waynesburg. He was a member and treasurer of Knights of Columbus of the church.
Mr. Schifko was a former Little League baseball and football coach and was active in raising funds for the Boy Scouts and working with Relay For Life.
Mr. Schifko was also a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 47, James Farrell American Legion Post 330 of Waynesburg and Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to work with wood.
He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Schifko was a Pennsylvania State Policeman for 34 years, retiring as a corporal at the Waynesburg Barracks where he conducted criminal investigations as a crime supervisor.
Mr. Schifko especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Earlene Veronica Ball Schifko, whom he married August 15, 1959.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Scott) Carpenter of Neptune Beach, Fla., and Karen (Wayne) Wagner of Lancaster; three sons, William Lee Schifko and his companion Connie Tennant of Waynesburg, Scott E. (Julie) Schifko of Toledo, Ohio, and Elmer Brian (Carla) Schifko Sr. of Mather; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Deanna Strickland of Leeland, N.C.; a brother, Lawrence Schifko of Adah; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Greeting of Friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in Milliken and Throckmorton FH, Inc. Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where a prayer service will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 232 East High Street, Waynesburg, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, with Father Albin McGinnis as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery in Waynesburg.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 47 will hold a memorial service at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Graveside military honors will be accorded by Greene County Veterans and representatives of the U.S. Army. The Pennsylvania State Police will be present with its Honor Guard.
