Penn State Extension will host a Sheep and Goat Selection Principles workshop on Friday, March 22, at its office in Westmoreland County. The purpose of the workshop is to help producers choose animals that best meet preferences at markets in their area as well as match the resources on their farm. Thomas Presbyterian Church located at 1068 Linden Road in Eighty Four will hold the Passover Bible study “Passover: The Story of Easter from the Beginning” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 13-April 17, in Fellowship Hall. Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania 2019 Orchid Show will be held March 16 and 17 at a new location due to renovations at Phipps Garden Center. This year’s show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Artsmiths located at 1635 McFarland Road in Mt. Lebanon. There will be exhibits, free educational classes, a repotting service and the opportunity to purchase orchids from east coast orchid vendors. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Westmoreland Woodlands Improvement Association will host a talk on riparian buffers at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the J. Roy Houston Conservation Center at 218 Donohoe Road in Greensburg. Light refreshments will be served at a social half-hour starting at 6. The talk is free to WWIA members and students with a current student ID; cost for all others is $5. St. John Byzantine Catholic Church is selling the Carpathian Cookery cookbook. The 330-page cookbook includes sections on Christmas and Easter customs and recipes, traditional Rusyn and Slavic foods and other recipes of St. John’s parishioners. The James Farrell American Legion Post 330 located on East High Street in Waynesburg will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Legion from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 16. There will be food and entertainment. A special invitation is extended to all veterans in the community. Memberships are currently being accepted – regulars, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and social.
