CARMICHAELS – Carmichaels Area High School will hold commencement exercises for 73 members of the Class of 2013 at 7:15 p.m. May 31 in the high school gymnasium.

The class valedictorians are Floretta Louise Chambers and Hillary Gabrielle Pratt. Class salutatorian is Maria Stuvek and Pratt, as class president, will address the class and call roll.

Dorothy Hanley, a 1979 Carmichaels Area alumnus, will be the keynote speaker for the night.

Hanley is a graduate from Pennsylvania State University in 1983 with a degree in accounting.

Since college, Hanley has pursued numerous entrepreneurial endeavors. She became the divisional controller and director of the Chas. Levy Company in Chicago; the wholesale distributor, vice president of finance and operations and owner of DesignPac Inc; and has recently purchased and invested in Scooterworks Holdings.

Chambers is the daughter of Barry and Stephanie Chambers and plans on attending Duquesne University to major in early childhood education.

She was president of the National Honor Society, member of the Academic League and senior standing committee and a member of the volleyball team. Some of her accomplishments and awards include the $15,017 School of Education Scholarship from Duquesne, fall scholar/athlete award and 2012 Teen Miss Greene County.

Pratt is the daughter of Kevin and Kimberly Simon-Pratt and plans on attending Washington & Jefferson College to major in biology.

She was president of the senior standing committee, vice president of the National Honor Society and field commander of the marching band. Some of her accomplishments and awards include: Howard J. Burnett Presidential Scholarship, February girl of the month and being on the honor roll.

Stuvek is the daughter of Thomas and Patricia Stuvek and plans on attending the University of Pittsburgh to major in business with the dream of opening her own bakery.

She was layout editor of the school’s newspaper, assistant editor of the yearbook, a member of the varsity volleyball team and a member of the senior standing committee. Some of her accomplishments include being on the honor roll through her entire high school career and being a member of National Honor Society.

To aid three seniors in their post-secondary school finances, two scholarships will be granted to qualified individuals. The Paul and Dolores Jazwa Lavins Scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors while the Holupka-Marinoff Gift Fund also will help pay for one student’s education.
