My name is Katie Green, and I’m the new editor of Canonsburg Magazine. But, you might already know me, because I grew up and still live in Canonsburg. You might know me by my maiden name, Mavrich. Or, you might know me through my work serving on the board of trustees of the Frank Sarris Public Library.
You also might know me because I’ve been with the Observer-Reporter since 2012, first as the editor of The Almanac and South Hills Living magazine. I’ve been in my current role as editorial director of niche publications since 2016, so you might have seen my names in other publications that have hit your doorstep – including Living in Washington County magazine, Southpointe Today, Total Health and so on.
I’m excited to oversee a title that reaches a readership who lives in a town that means so much to me. I’ll be continuing partnerships that Canonsburg Magazine has already made with Mayor David Rhome, the library, our senior citizens center, Canon-McMillan School District and more.
I’m also excited to announce new collaborations with the Greater Canonsburg Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International.
If you have a local organization that you feel has news that would be pertinent to Canonsburg Magazine’s readers, please get in touch with me by emailing kgreen@observer-reporter.net or calling me at 724.229.2741.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my predecessor, Terry Hazlett. A former borough manager, Hazlett had been at the helm of Canonsburg Magazine for as long as I can remember. Years ago, he “retired.” I have that word in quotes, because it’s a stretch. After his retirement from the borough and the Observer-Reporter, where he also worked for many years, he continued to oversee Canonsburg Magazine, while also hosting “Vinyl Countdown” on WJPA. This past fall, he told me that he was ready to “retire.” Again. He didn’t want to make a big deal about his final issue as editor, so we didn’t.
But now that I’m in charge, I get to acknowledge it – and let you know that “retirement” still needs to have quotation marks around it.
Again, I look forward to bringing you community news and events, and highlighting the best of what Canonsburg has to offer to its residents, its businesses and its visitors. Drop me an email, give me a call – or even stop me on the street if you have an idea.
