High school baseball roundup: Carmichaels remains undefeated

Undefeated Carmichaels scored nine runs over the first three innings and cruised to an 11-1 five-inning victory over visiting West Greene in a non-section game Monday.

Pitcher Steven Spehar allowed one unearned run over four innings for the Mikes (3-0) and Gavin Pratt went 2-for-2, scored two runs and had one of the Mikes’ three doubles. Zach Gamble and Collin Reynolds also smacked two-baggers.

Chase Blake had two of West Greene’s four hits. The Pioneers’ record dropped to 2-1.

Ringgold 4, Steel Valley 0:

Josh Peters and Nate Pajak combined for a four-hit shutout and Ringgold won its first game of the season, 4-0 over host Steel valley in a non-section contest.

Peters and Pajak struck out only one batter but issued only two walks and scattered four singles.

Ringgold (1-2) scored three runs in the first inning. Bobby Boyer drove in the first run with a triple and scored on Dylan Wujcik’s single. An error allowed the third run to score.

Ringgold made it 4-0 in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Chase Angotti.

Bentworth 18, Geibel 0: Bentworth rode an 11-run second inning en route to an 18-0 shutout of host Geibel Catholic in a three-inning non-section game.

The Bearcats (2-1) had 13 hits, including doubles from Aaron Bunner and Michael Vottone.

Justin Kisner was the winning pitcher, striking out three. Geibel did not have a hit.

Frazier 13, Mapletown 1: Frazier took advantage of 10 walks by Mapletown pitchers and cruised past the Maples 13-1 in five innings.

The Commodores (2-1) made the most of nine singles, including two by Trent Hayes.

Five Frazier pitchers combined to strike out 11 Mapletown batters, but they did issue four walks.

Mapletown’s record is 0-2.

Latrobe 5, Peters Township 3: Latrobe took advantage of wildness by Peters Township pitching to score five runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat the Indians 5-3 in a non-section game.

PT (1-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring one of the runs on solo homer by Mark Lehman. The Indians were still up 2-0 when Latrobe (4-1) won the game with the big fifth inning. Each of the first two batters in the inning reached when hit by a pitch, and the the Wildcats’ first run scored on a bases-loaded hit batsman. A single tied the score and a bases-loaded walk gave Latrobe the lead.

Latrobe used seven different pitchers, each throwing one inning. They combined on a six-hitter, that included a double by the Indians’ Jackson McCloskey.

California 6, Beth-Center 4: California broke a scoreless tie with a four-run fifth inning and defeated Beth-Center, 6-4, in a non-section game.

Jacob Piktel earned the win on the mound and drove in a pair of runs for the Trojans. Brody Conner had a two-run double for California (2-1).

Dom Fundy singled home a pair of runs for Beth-Center (0-2).

Washington 20, Jefferson-Morgan 5: Asa Charnik went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI as Washington rolled to a 20-5 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a non-section game played at Wild Things Park.

Washington (1-3) led 5-3 after one inning, then erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the second. Winning pitcher Cooper Sharp scored four runs, and Mario Griffin and Mike Allen each had a double.

Ayden Pratt was 2-for-2 for Jefferson-Morgan (0-3).
