Mike: I wonder how that will affect Contura’s Cumberland Mine, since Longview announced last year it was going to purchase coal from that mine. The solar panel issue is also interesting.
From Park: Story was in the Morgantown paper.
Good morning everyone,
This news is about a week old, but if you haven’t heard, a West Virginia coal-fired power plant is adding a natural gas generator and a large solar farm and rebranding itself as the “Clean Energy Center.”
The article mentions that the solar installation will actually be located just across the state line in Greene County, PA! I heard secondhand from a Greene County Commissioner that this will be the biggest solar farm in the state, which would be very exciting if it’s indeed true. More solar jobs for Greene County!
Apparently, the solar will be here in PA because “West Virginia doesn’t allow for renewable energy tax credits but Pennsylvania does.” I’m not really sure what that’s referring to here – perhaps they are conflating SRECs with tax credits, since WV has no SREC market but PA does?

Coal plant just over line Maidsville and solar in Pa. better incentives. Longview owns coal-fired plant. Seems like sign of times, that coal increasingly becoming less competitive and solar more competitive. Trtying to move into emnegery sourcve of futre.
Most solar in Pa. is ditsributed solar — not big util .s solar, Hopemowners and businesses pttuutting rooftop solar. Npt big grid solar for large solar farms.
Heard rumors that could ne largest ion Pa.
Ineresting because we have better solar incentives. We have right policies. But don’t think can beat Md. or NY which have bigger solar incentives. We should be doing things to incentivize solar in Pa. — way should be.
Big open house called Pa Solar Congress in Pgh. Feb, 24. Start doing every year. Wilkinsburg. Community Forge bldg. Good opp about getting more solar in pennsyl.

Pa. Consulting for E2 (e2.org) — work businesses on clean energy policey around pa.
big projects PSU project in Franklin County. and Adams County (from citty of Phila.) — both 70 megawatt, would be the largest.
Panels oriented in right direction, can adjust tilts of panels to get maxim efficient.
So many states around us growing leaps and bounds in solar.
Acquion — not around.
Great for Greene County. So many jobs available in this industry. Lot of these larger projects that are in the Q. A lot of corps buying this energy.
Also becoming cheaper
Warrantied for 30 years. Once pay for equipment, it’s free after that. prices are dropping all the time.
