Something for everyone this summer at Frank Sarris Public Library!

Upcoming events

Summer Hours: Now through Friday, Aug. 23, we will have summer hours on Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday hours will remain 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Note: The library will be closed in observance of the Fourth of July, but look for Wonder Woman, Princess Leia and Spider Man along with some of your favorite library workers in the Canonsburg Fourth of July Parade!

Summer reading

Kids and Families – Shoot for the Moon game board of reading challenges to complete with prizes for each of the five levels. Everyone who reaches the moon will be entered for a chance to win a family prize pack of zoo tickets and a restaurant gift card! Challenges will run from Monday, June 17, through Friday, Aug. 23.

Teens and Adults – For every book anyone age 13 and up checks out during the dates of the challenge, you’ll get one ticket in the appropriate raffle drawing (one for teens, one for adults). The more books you check out, the more chances to win a $100 prize at the end of the summer. Challenges will run from Monday, June 17, through Friday, August 23.

Summer Story Time for preschoolers will be Mondays and Tuesdays, June 24 to July 29, 10:30-11 a.m.

Family Nights, Tuesdays, June 25 to July 30, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Summer Quest for grades K-4 will be offered Tuesday through Friday the following weeks: July 9-12, July 16-19, July 23-26, July 30, Aug. 2, 10:30-12:30 p.m.

• Tweens in Space for grades 5-8 will be offered the following dates: Mondays, July 8, 15, 22, 29, from 1-2 p.m. or Thursdays, July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Teen Club Meeting

The Teen Advisory Board (grades 7-12) meets to plan, organize and lead activities that will engage and benefit members of the community. New members welcome. Monday July 1, 6-7 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 5, 6-7 p.m.

Fiction Book Club

Fiction Book Club will be discussing “The Husband’s Secret,” by Liane Moriarty. New members always welcome! Wednesday, July 10, 1-2 p.m.

The club will be discussing “Bone Box,” by Faye Kellerman. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1-2 p.m.

Teen Talk

Universe of Stories: String Theory – Join Carly Mistick, Teen Advisory Board member, to learn more about this concept of theoretical physics. Thursday, July 11, 6-7 p.m.

Air Force One

Air Force One: An Honor, Privilege and Pleasure to Serve – join us for a presentation by Pennsylvania native John L. Haigh Sr., who will speak about his experiences as Chief Steward on Air Force One. During his career John served four presidents and met many dignitaries. The presentation will be followed by an ice cream social. Monday, July 15, 4 p.m.

Interstellar

The Science behind Interstellar – Join us at the library for a showing of Interstellar (PG-13) and afterward, a group discussion on the science behind the movie. Sponsored by the FSPL Teen Advisory Board. Saturday, July 13.

Teen Writer’s Club

Are you a student in grades 7-12 who enjoys writing? Whether you enjoy writing fiction, poetry, short stories or more, stop by to meet like-minded teens. FSPL Fan Fest

Save the date for FSPL Fan Fest – where comics, pop-culture and fandoms collide! This is an all-ages celebration of comic books, graphic novels, anime, and pop-culture. Admission is free. We are looking for artists and vendors of comic, anime, pop culture, sci-fi and fantasy art and merchandise for this event. Registration forms can be found on our Facebook page and our website. Other activities include a Fan Art contest for students ages 10-17, workshops, cosplay contest, photo booth areas, pop-culture trivia, food and more. Release your inner geek and join in the fun! Kanopy is an on-demand film streaming service that allows FSPL cardholders free access to start streaming films instantly. Films can be streamed from any computer, television, mobile device or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast or Roku. Stream up to eight available movies/month. To access, create an account with Kanopy, verify your email address and then enter your Frank Sarris Public Library card number.

OverDrive/Libby

Borrow eBooks, audiobooks and Read-Along eBooks anytime, anywhere – All you need is your library card. Use your smartphone, tablet or computer to enjoy one of the 1,700-plus titles in the WAGGIN collection!

PA DMV Practice Tests

Through the library’s website, visitors can access free tests specifically based on Pennsylvania’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) materials. This website includes multiple car, motorcycle and CDL practice tests, online driver’s manuals and a FAQ section with detailed answers to over 100 DMV-related questions.

Playaway Audiobooks

Check out our collection of Playaway audiobooks – You can listen anytime, anywhere. These audiobooks are powered by AAA battery so no other device, technology or WiFi connection is needed. The universal audio jack is compatible with headphones (listen while you clean, garden or relax) and auxiliary cords (use an auxiliary cord to listen in the car). Come and check out our collection and start listening!

Playaway Launchpad

Playaway Launchpad is a preloaded tablet designed for a circulation environment. We have Launchpads for children, teens and adults. The Launchpads for children are preloaded with high-quality learning apps and are available in many subjects. The teen and adult Launchpads include some instructional apps, brain games and trivia.

Young Explorer Kits

Thanks to Grable Foundation’s generous funding of the Young Library Explorers program, we have a total of 69 kits for infants, toddlers, and elementary school (through fourth grade) children. Samples of our themes: shapes, STEM, measurement and dinosaurs. These kits are filled with age-appropriate educational toys and other materials, and available to borrow. Stop by the Adult Circulation desk to borrow a kit.
