John Thomas Black, 93, of Wichita, Kans., formerly of Waynesburg, died Saturday, June 29, 2019, in the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kans.
He was born Monday, October 19, 1925 in Waynesburg, a son of the late Lyndsey Black and Lucy Durbin Black.
Mr. Black was a member of the First Christian Church in Waynesburg. He was a veteran, having served with the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the James Farrell American Legion Post #330 in Waynesburg. When his health permitted, he enjoyed fishing. Mr. Black worked as a foreman for Eaton Air Control Corporation with their North Carolina Division.
His first wife, Edna Irene Wood Black, died February 25, 1986. His second wife, Joyce Black, is also deceased.
Surviving are one son, Lester I. (Teresa) Black, of Wichita, Kans.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Smitley, of Mather; one brother, Charles Black, of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one daughter, Loretta Lowe; one sister, Alberta Sutherland; five brothers, Harry Black, George Black, James Black, Alvie Black and Ralph D. Black.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc. Daryl L. Throckmorton Owner/Director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, with Pastor Scott Chambers officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. Full graveside military honors will be accorded by Greene County Veterans. Information is online at www.milliken-throckmortonfh.com.
