Kathleen J. Matthews, 62, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver Township, passed away Saturday July 6, 2019, in Mon Valley Hospital.

She was born September 7, 1956, in Washington, a daughter of the late Shirley Kucera Tiernan and Roy Tiernan of Waynesburg, who survives.

Mrs. Matthews was a 1976 graduate of California Area High School.

She was a member of the American Legion Post 801 Auxiliary, Roscoe, Moose Lodge 461, Waynesburg, and a social member of the Fayette City Legion.

A homemaker, Kathleen enjoyed going to The Meadows, cooking, crocheting and gardening. She especially enjoyed her two dogs, two cats and two birds.

On July 16, 2006, she married Edward L. Matthews, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Christopher Hartley (Alisa) of Monongahela; a stepdaughter, Heidi Matthews (Carmen) of Uniontown; a sister, Linda Criss of Waynesburg; three brothers, Roy Tiernan Jr. (Cindy) of Roanoke, Texas, Stephen Tiernan (Donna) of Belle Vernon and Michael Tiernan (Carol) of Daisytown; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her mother, is a sister Cheryl Tiernan, who died in infancy.

Funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
