Reptiles will be slithering their way to Cecil Township for the Steel City Reptile Expo this Saturday.

Reptile breeders from New York, Ohio, Maryland, Michigan and West Virginia will be ready for the July 20 expo with thousands of reptiles and amphibians. There will be live animal encounters, seminars and a free reptile petting zoo.

Steel City Reptile Expo Owner Tom Kelly said most people aren’t interested in reptiles because they’ve had bad previous experiences.

“Most people have had bad experiences before with snakes and other reptiles,” Kelly said. “But once you have a good experience with a snake, their fear goes right away. We’re able to provide that good experience.”

This is the expo’s fourth year at Printscape Arena at Southpointe. The expo happens six times a year.

Visitors can buy reptiles, amphibians and supplies at the expo. Kelly said prices of the animals ranges depending on how rare the reptile is.

“They can be $25 to $2,000, but it really just depends on the reptile,” Kelly said.

Some of the most popular reptiles featured at the expo are ball pythons, boa constrictors, corn snakes, turtles and tortoises, bearded dragons, geckos and lizards. All reptiles at the expo are nonvenomous.

Steel City Reptile Expo will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission for the expo is $6. Children 4 and younger are admitted free.
