LETTER: Limited hours limiting blood donations
I read the letter from Vitalant about the new donation schedule here in Washington due to the draw center closing. Vitalant may be alive, but I am not sure it is well.
I have been donating blood for many years. For the past five or so years I have been a regular platelet donor, donating every three to four weeks. My appointments were always the earliest on Saturday mornings.
Vitalant called me recently to set up an appointment. The soonest available for an early Saturday morning appointment was Oct. 5. By having to wait that long, Vitalant will be losing at least four platelet donations from me alone.
I can’t be the only regular donor affected by the closing of the draw center. With its closing, the opportunity to donate has been reduced from roughly 20 days to four days per month.
I am ready, willing and able to donate platelets today but can’t because of the limited schedule.
