Richard P. Johnson Jr., 68, of Clarksville, Pa., passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020 in Washington Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1952 in Waynesburg, a son the late Richard Johnson Sr. and Verteree Cole Johnson of Clarksville, who survives.
Mr. Johnson was a 1970 graduate of Beth-Center High School and later attended Penn Commercial and went on to culinary school in Pittsburgh. He worked in the Republic Steel’s Clyde # 1 mine in Fredericktown, and also worked as a bus driver.
After becoming a sous chef, his culinary career took him across the country working in various locations in Illinois, California, Kentucky and Florida. For over 20 years, he worked with the Marriott International Hotels.
Beside his interest in cooking, he was an avid sports fan enjoying the Pittsburgh Steelers, tennis, basketball and many other sports.
Mr. Johnson was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Pitt Gas (Clarksville) where he served as deacon and formerly the choir director.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three sisters, Juanita Brown (David) of Canonsburg, , Christina Rutan of Clarksville, and Velma Keys (Griffin) of Lanham, Md.; three nieces, Nicole Johnson, Breannah Keys and Alysha Keys.
Deceased, in addition to his father, is a brother Carlton Johnson.
A public visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 followed at 1 p.m. with a private funeral service in the Greenlee’s Fredericktown Funeral Home, Ltd., 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road. Fredericktown, PA with the Rev. James C. Cherry officiating. Private interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park.
