Former Bell Telephone operator
Mary Malyuk, 89, of Finleyville, died Friday, May 31, 2013, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.
She was born May 1, 1924, in Fayette County, a daughter of the late Steve and Anna Krasnik.
Mrs. Malyuk graduated from South Huntington High School.
She worked as a Bell Telephone operator in Greensburg and then Monongahela.
Mrs. Malyuk was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Monongahela, where she and her husband, Steve, were married. She sang for years in the church choir and was an active member of the ladies guild. She loved to bake for church bake sales.
She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She traveled extensively, having visited Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hawaii, Europe and South Africa. She and her husband were blessed with two children.
Mrs. Malyuk will be sadly missed by her daughter, Linda and husband Phil Fabian of Scottsdale, Ariz., and her son, Steven and wife Casey of Peters Township, and her many friends.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Steve Malyuk, who died May 16, 2009, and a brother, Michael Krasnik.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where a blessing service will be held at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, followed by a service at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Sixth and Marne streets, Monongahela, with the Very Rev. Edward Pehanich as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Panachida services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
