Janet M. Kelso Curtis

Janet M. Kelso Curtis, 83, of Avella, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in Premier Washington Health Center.

She was born February 19, 1938, in Cecil Township, a daughter of the late Kenneth Kleek and Clara Mae Plance Kelso.

Mrs. Curtis attended Cecil High School. After starting her family, she attended night classes at Avella High School and was very proud to receive her GED in 1972.

She did secretarial work in the area for 15 years and was a tour guide at Meadowcroft Rock Shelter and Historic Village for three years.

Mrs. Curtis was a former member of Cross Creek Presbyterian Church and had been attending Avella Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Cross Creek Valley Senior Citizens and the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing and spending time with her family. Her favorite pastime was reading, especially mid-century novels.

She had lived in Avella since 1965, then moved to Melbourne, Fla., for nine years before moving back to Avella in 2011.

On February 15, 1964, she married Clarence C. Curtis, who died July 12, 2006.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra (Danny) Zuver of Avella, Barbara (Richard) Orison of Burgettstown; a son, Vernon Curtis of Avella; eight grandchildren, Brandy (Steve) Lubozynski, Heather Wilkerson (Randy Long), Devin King, Erica (John) Fisher, LaRina (Adam) George, Eleysia (Claude) Smith, Sadie (Craig) Orr, Levi (Kristy) Curtis; nine great-grandchildren, Ava, Jackson, Molly, Emery, Wyatt, Niko, Claude Jr. “Bucky”, Addie and Isla; a sister, Evelyn Hill of Weirton, W.Va.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are two sons, Donald E. and James R. King; two brothers, Kenneth and Joseph Kelso; and a sister, Jean Milbower.

Friends and family will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 9, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10.

Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
