Nancy L. Cohen, 88, of Newville, formerly of Altoona and Washington County, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021, in Green Ridge Village Senior Living in Newville. Born October 22, 1932, in Johnstown, she was a daughter of the late Charlotte E. Haupt and Lawrence F. Haupt.

Nancy grew up in Altoona and graduated from Altoona High School in 1950. She married Merel Cox; they divorced in August 1979. She graduated from California (PA) State College in 1976, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. She married David Cohen; he passed away in September 1988. She worked for the Washington County Area Agency on Aging before beginning her career with the PA Department of Welfare from where she retired in 1996.

She loved spending time with her family and friends and loved animals, especially her dogs. She was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Smithton. She was also a member of the German Club at California University of Pennsylvania.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Cox; son David Cox; stepdaughter Tracy Cohen (Costas); and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David I. Cohen; sister Mary Jane Haupt Garber; and brother Richard Haupt.
