Martha Jane Moore Briggs
Martha Jane “Janie” Moore Briggs, 88, of West Alexander, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, in her home. Martha was born October 20, 1932, in Washington, a daughter of the late Wilbur Lee and Nora Virginia Petit Moore.
Surviving are her children, Donald Briggs (Becky), Diane Margaria (Rory), David Briggs, Dennis Briggs (Vicky) and Darrell Briggs (Jill); grandchildren Willy Briggs (Arica), Keriann Richmond (Bradley), Kelli Briggs, Mitch Margaria (Liz), Tony Margaria (Amy), Rusty Margaria (Jaime), Darrell Briggs Jr. (Kim) and Daunice Briggs; great-grandchildren Waylon, Wyatt and Alyse Briggs, Emma, Teagan and Levi Richmond, Hailey Waggett, Colby and Juliana Margaria, Jacob, Angelina, Alexander and Jayna Margaria; stepgreat-grandchildren Ethan and Zoe Powell; stepgreat-great-grandson Axell Powell; and her 85-year-old brother, Harry Moore (Mary Jean) of Clarington, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, William Arley Briggs in 1997; siblings Wilbur Moore, Nora Phillips, Alma Schwab, Mary Wilson, Samuel Moore, Charlie Moore and Bill Moore.
Martha was an avid bowler. She loved to sing and play the piano and was a member of the church choir. Martha was a great baker and candy maker. She loved playing cards, gardening, canning and swinging on the porch. Everyone knew her as Mum or Gram and Cookie Gram by her great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 6, and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, Saturday, August 7, in the Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021. Interment will follow in the Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
