Anna Marie Corrado
Anna Marie Corrado, 92, of Allentown, Lehigh County, died Monday, August 23, 2021, in her residence.
She was born October 7, 1928, in Venetia, a daughter of the late Stefano Menichi and Eugenia Cappelli Menichi.
In 1947, Anna Marie graduated from Peters Township High School and became the Kiwanis Dairy Queen. She later worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone before spending many years as the religious coordinator at Cherry Point Marine Corps Base in Cherry Point, N.C.
A member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and its Christian Mothers, her entire life revolved around her Catholic faith.
Anna Marie was an “influencer” before “influencing” was a thing. In the ’60s and ’70s, she was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher with Immaculate Conception Church as well as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Brownie, Junior and Cadet leader with the 7th Ward Elementary School and the Clark Middle School. She walked in several March for Life demonstrations in Washington, DC.
In the ’80s and ’90s, Anna Marie, with her husband, Ron, were active with their church and community, often bringing homesick Marines home for Sunday dinner. She continued sharing her wisdom and faith until the end with the young staff at Heather Glen Senior Living, where she was very much loved by all. Anna Marie lived by the motto: “Take care of your name. Of all your earthly possessions, it’s the only thing you truly own.”
Not afraid of adventure throughout her life, and possessing a love of flying, her final wish was granted on July 18, when she was a passenger for a scenic ride in a 1929 Biplane at Grimes Airfield.
In addition to loving adventures, Mrs. Corrado was a great crafter.
Anna Marie met her husband, Antonio Ronaldo “Ron” Corrado, at a party and switched the name tags so that she could sit next to him at dinner. They were married July 5, 1950. Mr. Corrado died July 11, 2012.
Surviving are four children, Pamela (John) Manganello of Angel Fire, N.M., Ronald A. (Sue) Corrado of Washington, Steven D. (David) Corrado of Raleigh, N.C., and Mary Christine (Joe) D’Angelo of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kristin) Sanders, Joseph Manganello, Brianna (Josh) Elliott, Christopher Sanders, Jenna (Graham) Schill, Nicholas D’Angelo, Stephen D’Angelo and Natalie D’Angelo; four great-grandchildren, Aidan Casciola, Daphne Sanders, Aubri Casciola, and Cameron Sanders; and a son-in-law, Vin Sanders of Davenport, Fla.
Deceased are a daughter, Roanna Sanders; and siblings Erma Grego, Louis Menichi and Ernest Menichi.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 12 noon Tuesday, August 31, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Following visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, with Father Thomas Gillespie as celebrant. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
