George Furman

George Furman, 88, of Houston, died Thursday, October 7, 2021 in the VA Hospital in Aspinwall. He was born April 14, 1933 in Canonsburg, a son of John and Mary Kowalin Furman. Mr. Furman was a 1951 graduate of Canonsburg High School.

George owned and operated Furman Auto Body in Houston.

He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Houston and the VFW Post #191 in Canonsburg.

For many years George belonged to the Pittsburgh and then Washington Civic Orchestras as a violinist.

Mr. Furman was a car enthusiast and collected model cars. He also enjoyed reading and drawing.

On July 1, 1967, he married Marlene Hagerty who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Dwight Carr of Uniontown; two daughters, Tammy Myers and Melinda Williams (William) both of Houston; seven grandchildren, Heather Camden, Jason Myers, Tyler and Noah Williams, Caroline Metzler, Candace Casterline and Miranda Smith; six great grandchildren, Lane, Lucas and Lily Camden, Makayla and Kamrynn Myers and Jade Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a grandson, Brayden Williams; a son-in-law, Ernest Myers; two brothers and four sisters.

Friends will be received from 12 to 3 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston.

Services will start at 3 p.m. with Rev. Benjamin Libert officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post #191 Honor Guard.

Interment will be private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
