James Staschiak
James Staschiak passed quietly with his family by his side, Thursday, December 2, 2021.
Born July 14, 1943, in Atlasburg, to Mary and John Staschiak, deceased.
He came to Findlay, Ohio to attend Findlay College, and was an active participant as a freshman with the Oiler wrestling program.
He married Doris Higley in July of 1964, and she survives. Their sons, James D. (Janet), Jon (Claudia), and Jeff (Dawn) mourn his loss.
Jim loved his children and grandchildren, and spent many happy times with them. From the oldest Stephen, to Christine, Samuel, James A., Joseph, Lindsey, Isabella, and Lexi; all gave him great pleasure and pride.
He also had many nieces and nephews who he regularly spoke with and always had great love for all.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John (Ann who survives), and Kevin (Barbara who survives); sisters, Mary Ann (Norman) and Stephanie (Cal); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Buckingham (Husband Jim) who worked as a loyal staff member for 30 years in his office, Lynnette West (Anthony), Mary Thomas (Ned) survives.
Jim was a first generation American and proud of his Polish heritage. He embodied the American spirit and tirelessly pursued accomplishment in his daily life.
When Jim and Doris decided to settle in Findlay, he started his own business in the early 1970’s when he formed Staschiak Realty and Insurance. He opened his own office and later sold his insurance agency to pursue his love of real estate full time in 1975. He sold his brokerage in 2016 and has remained as an Associate Broker at American Realty Partners Corp.
He served as President of the Findlay Board of Realtors in 1982, after serving as Vice President the year before and was proud to be an active board member for 49 years.
He opened The Mortgage Center Inc. in 1984, which was the first mortgage brokerage in Findlay.
Jim enjoyed all aspects of his life in real estate investing, sales and home building, as well as completing home remodeling and improvement for many properties in the community. He instinctively knew how to make a property special for someone and helped hundreds of people sell and acquire homes.
He was active with the United Way and served for a brief time on the Hancock County Agency on Aging. He spent many years active as a Chamber of Commerce member, and loved serving as a Red Coat Ambassador, member of the Findlay Area Apartment Association, and State of National Association of Realtors. He was always concerned about issues impacting the community, and worked to make sure people understood them.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church,Findlay, and was comforted greatly by their visits and communion.
His interests were many and talents were great. He enjoyed the outdoors, taught his children to play sports, hunt and fish.
In 1992 his lifelong friend Phil Eaton and wife Jane went into a partnership to purchase a lakefront property on Middle Bass island. His love for the islands lasted the balance of his life.
He and Doris built a family cottage in 1998, where family came together to enjoy the fantastic views and bonding that was made possible by the amenities and many friendships forged with many wonderful fellow MBI residents.
He was an avid Walleye fisherman and boater, and would spend hours catching monster walleye for family fish fries.
Visitation will be at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, 205 West Sandusky Street, Findlay Ohio, on from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021, at First Lutheran Church in Findlay, with additional visitation at the church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pastor Bob Cochran will officiate, and interment will follow at Knollcrest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to either First Lutheran Church, or the Middle Bass Island Volunteer Fire Department.
