Disease infects 22 in Ohio home

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio – An outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease has infected 22 people at a central Ohio retirement community.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that those infected include visitors, residents and employees of Wesley Ridge Retirement Community in the Columbus suburb of Reynoldsburg. Health officials said two residents have died from the severe form of pneumonia. It is contracted through contaminated mist or water vapor and isn’t contagious.
Franklin County Public Health hasn’t released names and ages of those who died.
Legionnaires’ symptoms can include fever, chills, muscle aches, headaches, fatigue and loss of appetite.
Twenty people have been hospitalized since the outbreak began July 9. Most have been released.
The county health department is working with the Ohio Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to determine the source.
