Member of Apostolic Christian Temple
Robert Henry Perry, 90, of Washington, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born May 7, 1923, in Charleroi, a son of the late Robert H. and Virginia Calloway Perry.
Mr. Perry joined Macedonia House Church and later moved his membership to Apostolic Christian Temple, where he worshipped until his death.
On August 22, 1943, he married Helen M. Freeman. They enjoyed a marriage together for 66 years, until her death in 2009.
During his lifetime, he worked in the steel mill in McKeesport, began a private rubbish-hauling business, drove a garbage truck for William Martin Co. and retired as a radio dispatcher for Waste Management in 1999.
He thought of retirement as “just a word” because he kept a truck to help people move and to drive those in need to their intended destinations.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are son Clinton; daughter Gladys; brothers Ezekiel, Richard, Hillard and James; and sisters Ramona, Frances, Lucy and Emma.
Mr. Perry leaves to mourn daughters Helen Dates of Washington and Linda M. Perry of Akron, Ohio; sister Josephine Brooks (Willis); granddaughter Kweilan Dates of Washington; and a host of other grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, July 23, in Apostolic Christian Temple, 164 West Wylie Avenue, Washington. Arrangements are entrusted to Lantz Funeral Home Inc., 121 Ridge Avenue, Washington. Interment will follow immediately in Washington Cemetery.
