J-M approves principal’s retirement, realignment

JEFFERSON – Jefferson-Morgan School Board accepted the resignation Monday of middle school Principal Carol Korber and approved the realignment of the administrative staff.
Korber, who has worked for the district for 14 years, is retiring. Her resignation, accepted by the board with regret, is effective Oct. 10.
The board then voted to revise the duties of high school Principal Bart Donley to include those of the middle school principal, making Donley the middle-high school principal effective Aug. 20. The board approved a 5-percent increase in Donley’s salary.
It also created the new position of assistant principal for kindergarten through 12th grade and appointed Ronald P. Gallagher to the post at a starting salary of $70,000. Gallagher is currently a high school math teacher in the district.
The board also granted a 10-percent salary adjustment for elementary Principal Sam Silbaugh.
In preparation for the start of classes Aug. 27, the board also hired a number of teachers.
The board hired Kelly Keruskin as an elementary librarian; Melissa Faddis as an elementary teacher; Lindsay Kuhn as an elementary teacher; Lori Gamble as a special education teacher; Rebecca Capozza as a special education teacher; Courtney Ignaski as an elementary teacher; Richard Kolesar as a secondary math teacher; and Danielle Shrader, as a secondary math teacher.
The board also accepted the resignation with regret of Kevin McElheny, music and band teacher. He is retiring Aug. 30.
The board approved a motion to post positions, including those of a secondary special education teacher, elementary special education teacher, secondary math teacher and any position for which a vacancy may result from the teacher bidding process.
The board recessed the meeting until 4:30 p.m. Friday to act on additional personnel matters.
The board also voted on several coaching positions, hiring Dennis Garrett as head coach for boys’ varsity basketball; and Ryan Jeffries, Sean Lohrer and Brandon Robinson as assistant boys’ basketball coaches.
Matt Pagac was appointed assistant football coach; and resignations were accepted from Gerald Baker, assistant football coach, and Howard Hair, volunteer coach for girls’ basketball.
The board also voted to purchase 75 raincoats for the band for $4,468 from Palombo Inc. Half the money will be paid by the district from money budgeted for uniforms; the remaining half will be covered by the band boosters.
The board approved the purchase of Spanish language books at a cost of $4,010.90 and the purchase of the Glencoe Math Course for grade six, no amount specified.
