Doris Fay Bower
Doris Fay Bower, 87, of Bethel Park, died Monday, April 24, in Eighty Four.
Born in Edelman, Pa., November 20, 1935, a daughter of the late Paul Benjamin and Olga Getz Teel. She was a 1953 graduate of Pen Argyl High School. She lived most of her life in the Hazleton area.
She married Donald “Bill” Bower on March 4, 1973, in West Hazleton, and they raised their family together in Drums until his death in August 1995. Doris moved to Bethel Park in 1998.
She was a member of Upper St. Clair Alliance Church, and a former member of Grace Baptist Church, Hazleton.
From 1977 to 1987, she and her husband owned and operated the Carvel ice cream store on East Broad Street in Hazleton; in 1988 they opened Sweet Bees Ice Cream of Drifton. After moving to Bethel Park, Doris worked in the cash offices of several department stores, including Lazarus, Macy’s, and Boscov’s. Doris was active in various organizations throughout her life, beginning with 4-H when she was young. She was a past Matron of Mayflower Assembly No. 134 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mother Advisor of the Mayflower Assembly’s Order of the Rainbow for Girls, President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8161, and a very active participant in the God’s Arms crochet group.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and her husband, were brothers, Clarence and Roy Teel, and sisters, Eva George, Evelyn Jones, and Mildred Habrial, along with three step-children.
Surviving are two children, Katrina (Chad) Baker, Eighty Four, and Boyd (Leah) Bower, Canonsburg; five grandchildren, Camden (Emily) Baker of Lancaster, Aliza Bower, Logan Baker, Vivianna Bower, and Benjamin Bower, all at home; stepdaughter, Joye (John) Pimm of Ocala, Fla.; many step-grandchildren, including Eric, Jeffrey, and Gregory Pimm; and many step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Upper St. Clair Alliance Church, with visitation hours from 1 to 3 p.m.
Private burial will be held at the family’s convenience.
