Louise Marie Taggart
Louise Marie Taggart, 93, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2023, in her home.
She was born May 6, 1930, in Greenville, Michigan, a daughter of the late Paul and Macy Snyder.
Louise graduated from Western Michigan University, with a bachelor’s degree in education.
She joined the U.S. Marine Corps immediately following graduation and proudly served for over two years at the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
She met the love of her life, fellow Marine Officer, Kermit L. Taggart, while in the service and they were married six months later. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage prior to Kermit’s passing in September 2021.
Louise had several jobs, in addition to being a stay-at-home mother for several years. She was a substitute teacher in the Washington area, department secretary in a V.A. hospital in Vermont, worked several years as a preschool teacher at Happy Face Learning Center in Washington, and as a swimming instructor at the Washington YWCA and The Cameron Wellness Center. She loved teaching children to swim.
A long-time active member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, Louise served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on the church’s Nurture Team.
She enjoyed reading, swimming and water aerobics, knitting and traveling, especially many trips with her husband to Great Britain. Louise and Kermit enjoyed attending Wild Things games for several years.
The family is grateful for the compassionate staff of Strabane Woods Assisted Living, who helped Louise over this past year.
She is survived by her son, David K. Taggart, of Calhoun, Ga.; two daughters, Nancy (John) Tilley of Washington and Kathleen (Wayne Nelson) Taggart of Middlesex, Vt.; a sister, Frances Paulson; a sister-in-law, June Colilla; grandchildren: Katelyn Willyerd, Benjamin Tilley, Nathan and Christine Lefavour, Jennifer, Andrew and Emily Taggart and Stephanie Carden; several nieces and nephews; and her much loved great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to her beloved husband, Kermit, are two sisters, Ruth Holland and Eleanor Kiste; and daughter-in-law, Betty Hensley Taggart.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the time of the service, on Friday, June 9th, at Faith United Presbyterian Church, 900 East Beau Street, Washington, with Reverend Jason Hefner, D. Min., officiating. Interment in The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will be private, with military honors accorded by active duty Marines and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Faith United Presbyterian Church, for the kid’s camp fund or to Citizens Library.
