September is Library Card Sign-up Month. Stop by the library to receive a new WAGGIN card or replace damaged or lost cards at no charge.

WAGGIN informational sessions will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 9; 10 a.m. Sept. 17; and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24. Patrons will be introduced to the Polaris database and the library’s online catalog and learn how to manage an online account. Call the library to register for one of the classes.

Flu clinic will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11. Walgreens pharmacists will administer the shots. The cost is covered by many insurance plans, including Medicare Part B customers. A 20 percent discount is offered to Prescription Savings Club members. Call the library to reserve an immunization.

Annual Teddy Bear Picnic for 2- to 6-year-olds will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 on the lawn. There will be crafts, lunch and other activities. Register in the Children’s Department or call the library.

Free SAT preparation classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 14-28. The classes will cover math, language arts and writing. Bring a scientific calculator, if available, and a bag lunch. Registration is required by calling the library.

Local author Billie Allen will discuss her book, “Superstar,” from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 25. Allen is a former newspaper columnist and lives in Southwestern Pennsylvania. “Superstar” is a two-volume set and can be purchased that evening.

Book club will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 17. “Crossing to Safety” by Wallace Stegner will be discussed.

Off the Shelf, sponsored by Peacock Keller & Ecker LLP, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe. Tickets are available at the library. In addition, the library is selling raffle tickets for a 10-piece set of All-Clad Cookware. Tickets are $10 each or two for $15. Proceeds will benefit libraries in Washington, Greene and Fayette counties.

Back-to-School Family Game Night will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27. Children must be at least 6 years old. There will be games and nutritious snacks. Call the library to register.

Waggin and Overdrive class will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Sept. 12. Participants will learn how to navigate the new library card system. Call the library to register for one of the classes.

Senior Lunch & Learn Recipe Swap will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the community room. Participants are asked to share favorite recipes for meals, appetizers, drinks or desserts, along with a sample to share. Call the library to register.

Luncheon and Fashion Show will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 22 at Chartiers Township fire and social hall. Book sale will be held during library hours Sept. 21-28. Nonfiction, fiction and children’s and teen books will be sold. All proceeds benefit the library book fund.

Banned Book Week Wanted Posters will be held during library hours Sept. 16-21. Children can get their picture taken with a banned book and placed on the wall of Wanted Banned Book Readers.

Private computer lessons are available weekdays at the library. Cost is $10 per hour. Call Jess at the library for more information or to make an appointment.

Chess Club will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday. All ages are welcome. Instructors will be available, as well as chess sets. The club will meet Oct. 5, Nov. 9 and Dec. 7.

• Preschool, for children 3 years old through kindergarten, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 1 through Dec. 10. Children must be 3 by Sept. 1. The literacy-based program includes stories, rhymes, songs, an occasional short movie or easy craft and a snack each week.

• Toddler, which will meet Wednesdays, Oct. 2 through Dec. 11. Children 11/2 to 3 years old will meet from 10:30 to 11 a.m., and 2 1/2– to 3-year-olds will meet from 11:30 a.m. to noon. A parent or adult caregiver must accompany each child. The literacy-based programs include interactive stories, rhymes, songs, circle games, an occasional easy craft and a snack each week.

Lunch with Friends, a noontime speaker series, begins Sept. 10. Jeanne Marie Laskas, author of “Hidden America,” will speak. The program is free. Lunch will be available afterward for $5.

Grant-seeking Basics will be presented by the Foundation Center at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 11. Registration is suggested, but not required.

College Bound Series: Intro to SAT and ACT will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11. The free session is open to ninth- to 12th graders. Practice will be offered for $25 Sept. 21 and 28. Library scholarships are available for practice tests. The program is presented by the Huntington Learning Center.

Stitching Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12.

Friends of the Library will join library staff Sept. 12 at the farmers market in Washington.

CitiBooks, a used books bookstore in the lower level of the library, is open from 10 a.m. to 7p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. itiBooks is staffed by volunteers, and all proceeds benefit the library.
