The new high school football season kicked off Friday night with some outstanding and dominating performances.

Shai McKenzie picked up where he left off last year with a 234-yard, three-touchdown effort in Washington’s 26-14 victory over Greensburg Central Catholic. Washington rushed for 277 yards and the Prexies’ defense held the Centurions to 60.

Ryan Krull of Carmichaels got his first victory as a varsity head coach when the Mikes shut down arch-rival Jefferson-Morgan 36-0 in a Tri-County South Conference game. Wide receiver Tyler Aeschbacher had six receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Lawless completed 10 of 16 attempts for 215 yards and three TDs, and running back Brennen McMinn carried 18 times for 110 yards and scored on a 41-yard run. Ron Coder’s debut with Canon-McMillan did not go as well as the Big Macs fell to Penn Hills, 39-17. Koltan Kobrys led Fort Cherry to a 46-31 win over Carlynton with more than 300 total yards, 215 rushing and a 99-yard kickoff return. Quarterback Matt Heslin passed for three touchdowns for the Rangers, who led 33-14 at halftime.
