Joyce L. Muto

Joyce L. Muto, 79, of Jefferson Hills, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Whitehall Borough Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 31, 1943, in Washington, a daughter of the late Allan and Dorothy Tudor Shultz.

Joyce was a longtime member of Saint Hilary Catholic Church of Saint James Parish.

She was a 1962 graduate of Washington High School.

Joyce worked at King’s Jewelers in the Washington Mall for several years. She later worked as the activities director at Premier Washington Health Center, from where she retired.

Surviving are two daughters, Kelli (Eric) Freiwald of Jefferson Hills, and Tammi Vankirk of Powells Point, N.C.; a sister, Deborah (Jeff) Wright of Taylorstown; four grandchildren: Matthew (Emily), Nicholas, and A.J. Freiwald and Ryan Vankirk; two great-grandchildren, Treyton and Lucy Freiwald; and several nieces and a nephew.

Deceased are two sisters, her twin, Judy Hobbs and Katheryn Ullom.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to The American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or The Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
