Edwin S. Bawell

Edwin S. Bawell, 88, of Washington, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born November 16, 1924, in Meadow Lands, the youngest son of Nicholas and Caroline Bawel.

On December 2, 1948, he married Naomi “Ruth” Jeffers and early in their marriage, they lived in California and Europe while he worked for various large corporations. Upon moving back to this area, they owned and operated a farm in Lone Pine and worked for McGraw Edison in Canonsburg. In their later years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. He was very proud of the fact that they camped their way to Alaska and back. Mrs. Bawell died January 20, 2006.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Bawell was a good man, honest and hard working who, for the past seven and a half years, had made his home with his son, Jeffrey, and daughter-in-law Sabrina in Washington, where he enjoyed the company of the family poodles, Beau, Nina and Lacy. He was often seen outside on the deck enjoying the sunshine with the dogs.

Surviving are his sister, Emily Narsavage of Washington; children, a son, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Bawell of Washington and daughters Janet (Ted Potts) Shapter, MD, of Omaha, Ark., and Jill (Cliff) McClintock of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren Nicholas (Marge) Shapter, Danja (Mike) Gamble, Katherine Knick and Jeffrey (Haley) Knick; five great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, are brother Walter Bawell and sister Sophia Kindelberger.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, with the Rev. C. J. Houry officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Donnell House c/o Washington Hospital Hospice, 155 Wilson Ave. Washington, PA 15301.
