The coal industry wants us to believe there is a war on coal and that the Environmental Protection Agency and the Obama administration are not our friends.For years, we have heard industry talk about clean coal technology, but when the EPA wants to clean up the use of coal, the industry says there is war on coal.So what is the real truth?We also hear so much about the impacts from natural gas drilling in our area. I do believe there are some problems, and there is not enough information available on fracking. But I also believe that until both the industry and some landowners stop speaking half-truths, we will never move forward in creating a clean and safe environment for the next generation.This country has to gain energy independence, whether it be from clean coal technology, wind, solar or natural gas. It needs to be done in a safe and reliable manner, and telling half-truths on both sides of these issues will only lead to the next generation paying the price.Kimberly JonesWind Ridge
