WAYNESBURG – The Humane Society of Greene County will host a rabies clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the rabbit barn at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

Veterinary services for the event will be provided by Jennifer Behm, VMD. The prices are as follows: $8 rabies vaccinations, $3 dewormers, $10 cat distemper, $12 dog distemper, $10 cat leukemia and $20 cat combo. Proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Greene County.

The Humane Society is reminding pet owners that up-to-date shots will help keep pets from contracting common contagious diseases, even if a pet is kept indoors. A pet could easily be exposed to a contagious disease by simply going for a walk or out to the bathroom.

Keep in mind that vaccinations take a few days to a few weeks before they become effective. Plan any travel or other activities accordingly to keep your pet from risk.

Before taking a pet to places such as boarding kennels, dog parks and grooming salons, be sure to consult a veterinarian. These are places where a pet is most likely to contract a disease.

The vision of the Humane Society of Greene County is to improve the quality of the lives of unwanted, abused and abandoned animals.

This is accomplished by providing shelter, medical care and the placement of unwanted animals into caring homes; utilizing trained humane police officers to investigate and prosecute animal abuse; and providing public education to heighten awareness of the plight of animals in our community. It is with the help the public that these goals are achieved.
