Irwin to be grand marshal of Vets Day parade
U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Lewis G. Irwin will be the grand marshal of the Washington County Veterans Day parade that will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 9 in downtown Washington.
The parade begins at Hall and Jefferson avenues, travels through downtown Washington along Chestnut and Main streets and will end at American Legion Post 175 on Park Avenue.
Veterans and community groups from around the county will participate. Groups wishing to participate that have not already registered should call John King, post adjutant, at 724-228-0944.
A luncheon will be held at noon at Post 175, where Irwin will speak, and the parade will follow.
Irwin is a 1982 McGuffey High School graduate and a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He commands the 926th Engineer Brigade, the Army’s largest combat engineer brigade, based in Montgomery, Ala. In 2008, he returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, where he led an effort to reform the Afghan National Police. He also serves as an Army Reserve adjunct professor at the Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute.
In his civilian career, Irwin is a professor of public policy and government at Duquesne University. He resides in McMurray.
