Collecting delinquent taxes and using antiquated tax laws to support schools is a very expensive and losing battle that taxpayers once again have to support.

Why are the hard-working, responsible people in our society who choose to own property targeted to pay for and support the finances of school districts? Senior citizens now on fixed incomes who paid school taxes most of their lives are being held accountable to still pay them.

There are no easy answers. But may I suggest one?

We need a sales tax to support school districts. This would be done by raising the Pennsylvania sales tax so everyone is paying tax and not just property owners. The part of our society who choose not to own property or to fly below the radar of responsibility can also become a part of the tax base.
