Soccer: C-M wins; USC edges PT in Section 5-AAA

The Canon-McMillan boys team remained undefeated with a 3-0 shutout over Chartiers Valley Saturday afternoon in Section 5-AAA.

The Big Macs (7-0-2) broke the match open with two second-half goals.

Ivan Viveros scored two goals for Canon-Mac and Josh Kruczek had the other tally. Jake Wilcox and Luke Maher each had an assist.

Goalkeeper Christian Snatchko recorded his seventh shutout.

• Joel Hart scored two goals as Upper St. Clair defeated Peters Township 4-3 in a key Section 5-AAA match.

It was the first section loss for PT (4-1-1, 7-2-1) and kept Upper St. Clair undefeated in the league at 5-0-1 (8-0-1 overall). The Panthers lead Canon-Mac by a half-game.

Peters Township twice battled back to tie the score, the last time at 2-2 on a goal by Ryan Ponchione. But Anthony Pezzone gave USC the lead for good at 3-2, scoring off a header, and Hart added his second goal to make it 4-2. PT’s Nico Mastrangelo scored with nine minutes remaining but the Indians were unable to put in the tying goal.

The Indians’ Ryan Faloni scored early second half to tie the score at 1-1.

Alyson Ferrari and Jessica Blumen combined for seven goals as Chartiers-Houston reached the .500 mark by overpowering Monessen, 10-0, Saturday.

Ferrari scored four goals and Blumen had three scores as C-H moved to 3-3 in section play and 5-5 overall.

Laura Mobley, Erin James and Karlee Zanaglio scored the other C-H goals. Goalkeeper Addy Knetzer made seven saves.
