Everyone concurs that Catnip Acres, which spays and neuters cats, is a great service to the community. It appears that Franklin Township zoning officials looked the other way for over a decade or were asleep at the wheel, and due to one or a few citizens the wheel started to squeak.

In the Sept. 9 editorial, “Learning that good intentions aren’t enough,” Richard and Carol Pultorak, the owners of Catnip Acres, were praised several times, and it was noted that Greene County President Judge William Nalitz doled out accolades to the Pultoraks, but didn’t address the fact that the powers that control this situation were guilty of any type of dereliction.

Everyone has compassion for the Pultoraks, but they need to bite the bullet and relocate. I hope citizens with the resources will continue to help the Pultoraks. Why do officials who are paid with our tax dollars allow situations to escalate and citizens get to pay the bill due to dereliction?

I respect Judge Nalitz, but I would have liked to have seen him address the lack of responsibility by the officials who should be monitoring situations in the area. Supervisors and other officials are paid to observe violations in the community and to address them, not to rely on taxpayers to bring them to their attention and be subject to ridicule and harassed by the perpetrators.
