Korean War vet enjoyed picnics, barbecues

Frank “Sam” Palovich, 82, of Cokeburg, died Monday, September 9, 2013, in his home.

He was born December 13, 1931, in Wendall, a son of the late Nicholas and Mildred “Minnie” Rudniski Palovich.

Mr. Palovich was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. For his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal.

He worked for Bethlehem Mines Corp., Mine No. 60, Eighty Four for 38 years until his retirement.

He was a member of Cokeburg Presbyterian Church, United Mine Workers of America Local No. 1197, Croation Fraternal Union of America Lodge No. 354, a 50-year member of Cokeburg Moose and a former president and member of Cokeburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Palovich enjoyed gardening, hunting, picnics and barbecues at home and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Pelin Palovich; two brothers, Steve (Joan) Palovich and Louis Palovich, both of Cokeburg; two brothers-in-law, Dick (Peppi) Berardinelli of Cokeburg and Mick (Fran) Delfine of Baden; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are four sisters, Stella Maser, Mary Henry, Angeline Hudock and Mildred “Mitsy” Palovich; and two brothers, Peter and Mike Palovich.

Friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 13. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville. Full military rites will be accorded graveside by Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post No. 705, Centerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cokeburg Presbyterian Church, 104 Washington Street, Cokeburg, PA 15324.
