• Action: The board voted unanimously to terminate and unnamed employee, citing personnel issues as the reason why the person’s identity was withheld. The board also did not indicate whether the former employee worked in maintenance, as a support staff member, as a teacher or as an administrator.

The reason for the dismissal was also withheld, with the only information divulged being that the administration conducted an investigation into the conduct of the employee, who was suspended without pay Oct. 15. As the employee did not demand a hearing, the suspension was put into effect with the official termination Monday.

The board voted unanimously to spend nearly $200,000 on items and installations not directly related to academics. Included in the amount were several vehicles such as $59,964 for two 2014 Ford E-250 school vans from Woltz and Wind Ford, purchased through the state contract. Also purchased was a 2013 Ford E-350 box delivery truck from Kenny Ross for $28,608, and a 2014 Ford F-450 chassis, one-ton dump truck with a snow plow and salt spreader for $56,304.

The board voted, with board members Lori Cuervo and Cindy Golembiewski dissenting, to name the dance team as a club sport rather than as an activity. The move, according to Superintendent Jeannine French, will permit the boosters and parents more power overseeing decisions.Before the move is official, the dance team must prove all affiliated with the team have the required clearances.

Kim Scott, co-president of the team, told board members the team would like to become a club sport. French assured Scott and the team that the district would provide help formulating bylaws.

The board approved a new district policy governing dedications and memorials. The decision arose after a sign proclaiming Evelyn’s Way was installed without board approval.

• Action: The board approved the appointment of winter sports season coaches, including: Mark Gaither, boys’ basketball varsity head coach; Michael Maltony, girls’ basketball varsity head coach; John Paiani, wrestling varsity head coach; and Joyce Eisiminger, rifle head coach.

A junior/senior high after-school credit recovery program for grades 7 through 12, to meet for four weeks at the end of each quarterly reporting period, was approved.

CherylAnn Blosl was hired as school nurse. Drug Free School/Wellness Committee and Student Assistance Program teams were approved.

The board approved the expulsion of a junior high student for violations of district policies, including discipline, code of conduct, weapons/dangerous instruments and terroristic threats/acts.

• Discussion: Superintendent Dr. Roberta P. DiLorenzo discussed the district’s nine target areas to ensure high student performance, including an emphasis on individualized learning and proficiency by third grade.

• Next meeting: 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in the high school cafeteria.

• Date: Oct. 22

• Action: The board approved the appointment of Barry Crumrine to the planning commission for an unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2016, and approved James Gallagher to serve as an alternate.

Supervisor Brian Spicer proposed a measure to send water to residents on Linden Creek Road who have dry wells, and it was approved 3-0. Spicer also urged the board to contact legislators and water companies to find a permanent solution.
