McGraw Edison retiree enjoyed his garden

Raymond L. Everett Sr., 84, of Canonsburg, died Monday, October 7, 2013, in his home.

He was born September 14, 1929, in Muse, a son of the late Cyrus and Minnie Speer Everett.

Mr. Everett was a 1947 graduate of Peters Township High School.

He worked for 25 years at McGraw Edison in Canonsburg, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Everett was a member of First Christian Church in Canonsburg and was a 50-year member of Chartiers Lodge 297 F&AM, where he had been a past master. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh.

He loved spending time with his grandkids, enjoyed his garden, cutting and splitting wood and feeding the local squirrels.

On October 13, 1951, he married Katharine “Kay” Cox, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Raymond L. Everett Jr. (Peggy) of Avella; three grandchildren, Raymond L. Everett III (Suzanne) of New Kensington, Katie Leeper (Matthew) of Avella and Paul Everett (Destiny) of Burgettstown; two great-granddaughters, Annabel and Violet Everett; a sister, Dorothy Koher of St. Clairsville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are five brothers, Donald, Wayne, Jay, Franklin and William Everett, and three sisters, Ada Campbell, Helen Perry and Mildred Leppla.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Thursday, October 10, in First Christian Church, 120 Anderson Drive, Canonsburg, PA 15317, followed by services at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Janet Scott-Mace officiating. Interment will be held in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Because of family health issues, no flowers will be accepted. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church of Canonsburg or Hope Hospice, 3356 Babcock Boulevard, Suite B, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, www.hopehospicepgh.org.
