County human services director takes on new role
Tim Kimmel, Washington County human services director since 2004, was named administrator of the 288-bed Washington County Health Center Thursday by the county salary board.Kimmel had been making $87,550 as human services director and health center assistant administrator, but since he completed course work at Community College of Allegheny County and passed state and federal licensing exams for nursing home administration, his new salary will be $97,500.Kimmel, 61, of Carroll Township, also logged the required 1,000 hours of working under an interim health center administrator.Unanimously approving Kimmel’s new title and salary were commissioners Larry Maggi, Diana Irey Vaughan and Harlan Shober and Controller Michael Namie. Scott Fergus, director of administration for Washington County, said Kimmel’s dual role will save county taxpayers’ money because he is filling two positions. He said Kimmel will be making “substantially under what he would be making in the private sector.”Discussion at a recent budget hearing showed that the health center is likely to experience a net loss of more than $1 million this year after several years of operating in the black. As human services director, departments Kimmel oversees include the Children and Youth Services agency, Aging Services and Child Care Information Services.
