1928 – 2013
Marjorie Lucille Eddy, 85, of East Liverpool, Ohio, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Nentwick Convalescent Home, East Liverpool.
She was born September 28, 1928, in Miracle Run, W.Va., near Blacksville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Rexal Lee Fox and Ivy Inez Lough Fox.
Mrs. Eddy was a homemaker and Methodist.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry Lee Eddy of Pittsburgh and Stephen D. Eddy of Philadelphia; two daughters, Kay McGaffick of Chester, W.Va., and Karen Miller of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, John P. Fox of New Bern, N.C., and Rexal Lee “Sam” Fox Jr. of Pinecrest, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Stanton D. Eddy; two brothers, Kester Fox and Robert Fox; and a sister, Ruby Hall.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of funeral service, Saturday, November 30, in Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, W.Va., with the Rev. Freddie Eddy II officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Bank Cemetery, Pine Bank.

Lemoyne Richard Hughes, 87, of Burgettstown, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

St. George Serbian Orthodox Church member
Joseph Katusa, 85, of Carmichaels, died November 26, 2013, in Arden Court, Jefferson Hills.
Mr. Katusa was born July 11, 1928, in Crucible, a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Josephine Mladjenovich Katusa.
He was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Masontown.
During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Merchant Marines. Later in life, he volunteered as a legislative chairman of the American Merchant Marines Veterans Association, working to successfully enact legislation by the U.S. Congress to recognize Merchant Marines during World War II. For his efforts, he was honored at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
Mr. Katusa was a graduate of Waynesburg College and was a prominent businessman in the Carmichaels area. Later, he became a field engineer for SAI Consulting Engineers.
He was a past president of Carmichaels Chamber of Commerce, Junior Tamburitzans and American Society of Highway Engineers. He was a member of Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 354, Serb National Federation, American Legion Post 816 of Rices Landing and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 of Carmichaels.
Mr. Katusa began work to start a group recognizing the Dalmatian region’s sons and daughters in America and to preserve their music and culture.
Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Pauley (Ed) of Tornado, W.Va., Christine Zupancic (John) of Bethel Park and Jacqueline (Paul) Okonak, of Nashua, N.H.; a son, David Katusa (Amy) of Newport, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Downs of Alexandria, Va., and Josephine Cote (Tom) of Sun City, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Ann, who died May 15, 2012; an infant son; a brother, John Katusa; and a sister, Julie Bogucki.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Saturday, November 30, in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Masontown. The Very Rev. Dr. Rodney E. Torbic will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels, with Full Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, Carmichaels.

Donora resident
Sandra Denice Mrock, 56, of Donora, formerly of Canonsburg, died Monday, November 25, 2013, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.
She was born April 23, 1957, in Washington, a daughter of Tod M. Mrock and the late Isabelle Parker Mrock.
Ms. Mrock was a homemaker and enjoyed music, reading, walking and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving are two brothers, Gary (Melissa) Mrock of Apollo and Daniel Mrock of Canonsburg: two sisters, Maureen Mrock of Canonsburg and Lorraine (Robert) Elias of Washington; nieces and nephews Eric and Brad Mrock, Holly Elias and Alycia Spence Ringer; great-nieces and great-nephews Haven and Jacob Ringer and Lily Mrock; and several cousins.
Deceased are a son, Justin Zentz; and her husband, George L. Zentz.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 30. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Enjoyed making crafts
Barbara A. Popovich, 65, of Erie, died Monday, November 25, 2013, in Millcreek Manor, Erie.
She was born February 28, 1948, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Edwin and Mary Burton Watson.
Mrs. Popovich enjoyed making crafts, and dedicated her talents to make hats for underprivileged children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends.
Surviving are her son, Jeffrey Martini and his wife, Pam, of Santee, Calif.; her best friend and caregiver, Marilyn Wells of Erie; sister-in-law Anna Marie Watson; three grandchildren, Bradley, Allyson and Hunter Martini; stepdaughter Lisa Popovich; and three stepgrandchildren, Kylie, Hunter and Ryan.
Deceased are her husband, Paul Popovich Jr.; and her brother, Randy Watson.
There will be no public visitation. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 2, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Interment will follow.

World War II veteran
Charles F. Schmalz, 94, of Houston, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg.
He was born April 13, 1919, in Canonsburg, a son of Charles H. and Maude Martin Schmalz.
Mr. Schmalz was a self-employed fabricator and welder. He would weld or fabricate anything he could for the house, specifically handrails and furniture.
He had also worked for 22 years as a batch tester for Cyanamide of Bridgeville.
Mr. Schmalz was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
On January 15, 1940, he married Martha Frazier, who died March 19, 2001.
Surviving are two sons, David Schmalz of Houston and Richard Schmalz of Meadow Lands; four grandchildren, Richard Schmalz, Christopher Schmalz (Jackie), Christine Sapienza (Dan) and Aric Schmalz: four great-grandchildren, Ricky, Benjamin, Jacob and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sons, Donald and Charles Schmalz; a grandson, Jason Schmalz; and two sisters, Mabel Hartley and Virginia Mae Schmalz, who died in infancy.
