Waynesburg falls at Malone

CANTON, Ohio – Seniors Cory Veldhuizen and Isiah Elliott combined for 49 points and Malone defeated Waynesburg, 92-70, in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

Veldhuizen scored 25 points and Elliott had 24 as Malone, an NAIA school, improved to 2-1. Veldhuizen made 11 of 16 shots from the field.

Waynesburg (3-2) never led in the game and fell behind 12-2 in the first four minutes. The Yellow Jackets managed to stay within single digits in the first half, trailing 41-32 at halftime.

Malone began pulling away midway through the second half, using a 9-2 run to open a 71-53 advantage with nine minutes remaining.

Jason Propst led Waynesburg with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting. Thomas Ellis scored 14 points and Kenny Klase had 11.

Daniel Wise scored 10 points for Malone, which shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded Waynesburg, 46-28. The Yellow Jackets shot 47 percent from the field but made only one of 12 shots from three-point range.
