Chartiers-Houston appeals MarkWest property assessment

The Chartiers-Houston School District this week filed with Washington County Court an appeal of a Marcellus Shale-related industrial property assessment, claiming it is undervalued for tax purposes.
MarkWest Liberty Midstream and Resources LLC of Denver, Colo., paid $5,077,912 for 106 acres at 800 Western Ave., Chartiers Township, in 2009.
Its building at the site has an assessment of $179,247 and the land is assessed at $212,225 for a total assessment of $391,472, according to court documents. The school district filed an appeal with the Washington County board of assessment appeals in August, claiming that the fair market value of the property is higher than its current assessment. Board members L. Anthony Spossey, William J. West and John Rheel, chairman, determined there should be no change in MarkWest’s assessment but notified the school district it had the option to take the matter before a judge. No hearing date has been set.
