Jason Propst was fouled with no time left on the clock and sank a free throw to give Waynesburg a 79-78 victory over Penn State-Altoona in the season-opening game for both teams.
Probst, who finished with a team-high 17 points, had made only 4 of 8 free throw attempts in the game.
Javon Wilson sank two free throws with four seconds remaining for Penn State-Altoona to tie the game at 78-78. Waynesburg inbounded the ball and Probst was fouled by Dylan Leazier.
Waynesburg erased a 49-37 deficit at halftime and held a five-point lead with 2:38 to play, but PSA battled back to tie on the free throws by Wilson, who had eight points. Jonathan Ross scored a game-high 25 points for Penn State-Altoona and Evan Greening added 20.
Women’s Results
Bridgewater 77, Waynesburg 64: Jess Strom scored a game-high 21 points to lead Bridgewater to a 77-64 victory over Waynesburg in the season-opener for the Yellow Jackets.
Holly Morgan scored 20 points, had three steals and grabbed 10 rebounds for Bridgewater, which led 38-31 at halftime. Cassidy Burkholder added 11 points and Oshene Kelly scored 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Heather Davis led Waynesburg with 17 points. Brooke Simons had nine points and seven rebounds and Maura Bobby had nine points and Rebecca Kerr added eight points.
